| FUN FACTS: Sheherazad is a legendary Persian queen and the famous storyteller of One Thousand and One Nights. Every day the Persian Shah (or King) would send for a virgin to have for the night, but then the next morning would have her beheaded and would then get a new virgin for that night. He had killed over a thousand women by the time he met Sheherazad. Sheherazad was able to save her life by telling an exciting story that would last until dawn and when the Shah would ask for another she would say it was morning and it was time to sleep and that the next story would be even more exciting, but that he would have to wait to hear the next story that night. And so the Shah kept her alive because he wanted to hear each story. After 1001 nights he realized that her stories were not only great entertainment, but he came to see that she was wise and well educated in morality as well as kindness. He decided to spare her life and made her his queen. |
